Kit
Faidate La Bottega del Ceraio.
Every candle is unique.
Here
are a few suggestions about how to make your own candles using the Bottega
del Ceraios handy Do-it-yourself kit.
Each piece is unique, created using your artistic imagination to give
magic and atmosphere to your surroundings in your own entirely personal
way.
How
to do it
Remember that our Do-it-yourself kits come complete with
5 ready waxed pure cotton wicks together with support clamps. Each wick
has an ideal melting diameter of 7 cm. In order to make thicker candles
the Bottega del Ceraio advises you to use more than one wick.
WARNING
- Children using the kit must always be supervised by adults.
- Take care when using hot substances.
- Use non-inflammable, heat-resistant containers.
GELWAX
- Cover the work surface. In order to prevent the cooker from being marked by gelwax, cover the area around the cooker ring with tinfoil.
- Remove the gelwax from its container and melt it in a bain-marie, as with normal wax, in a metal pan, preferably with a spout.
- Pour a small quantity of it into the container you have chosen and, while the gelwax is still hot, position the wick in the centre.
- When the first layer of gelwax has solidified, fill the container up to the desired height, making sure that the wick remains in a perfectly vertical position.
In order to best enjoy the glow and the colours of gelwax, we advise you to use a transparent, heat-resistant glass.
The candle will burn slowly and uniformly, without producing unpleasant odours.
WAX POWDER AND WAX DROPS
The coloured wax powder or "drops" is simple to use and extremely versatile. In order to use it, all you need is imagination.
- Cover the work surface. In order to prevent the cooker from being marked by wax, cover the area around the cooker ring with tinfoil.
- Melt the material in a bain-marie, in a metal pan, preferably with a spout.
- Pour a small quantity of it into the container you have chosen and, when the wax is still hot, position the wick in the centre.
- When the first layer of wax has solidified, fill the container up to the desired height, making sure that the wick remains in a perfectly vertical position.
Another simple and effective way of making candles with the wax powder and wax drops kits:
- Position the rigid wick in the centre of the container you have chosen.
- Pour the material into the container up to the desired level, making
sure that the wick remains in a perfectly vertical position.
- Light the wick: the wax will begin to melt, adding the final touch
to your candle.
You
can also make beautiful candles with coloured layers by obtaining different
packs of wax powder or drops in your favourite shades. Let's see how.
- Position the rigid wick at the centre of a glass container.
- Pour in a first layer of colour.
- Pour in a second layer of colour; to level the wax, gently tap the
glass on a folded cloth.
- Repeat the operation with the other coloured layers of powder or drops, making sure that the wick always remains in a vertical position.
- Level the surface one last time by tapping the glass on the cloth.
- Light the wick: the wax will begin to melt and there you have your own personalised candle!
DECORATIONS WITH WAX DROPS
You can also decorate the outer surface of ready-made candles in an interesting
way by using your own artistic creativity. It's easy.
- Cover the work surface. Take a normal hairdryer and place the wax drops you wish to use within easy reach.
- Using the hairdryer, begin to heat the part of the candle you wish to decorate. We advise you to heat only a small part at a time.
- Once the wax of the candle is sufficiently hot, begin to apply the drops.
- Repeat the operation with the other parts of the candle. And there you have your own candle decorated with coloured drops!
